The coordinator of the book club Nonkululeko Mtshali
couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw a throng of people entering the book
club session. She said that she wasn’t expecting a large number of students.
Students were cheerful to be at the book club as they were
longing for this opportunity. Ms Mtshali added that she established the book
club because she wanted future authors and writers to feel encouraged to
develop their writing skills.
The purpose of the
book club is to recruit more students to develop passion for reading books.

Noluthando Dlamama radiates the stage when reciting a poem. Noluthando received a standing ovation after reciting her emotional poem titled Angisak’funi.
Noluthando said that she started reciting poems when she
was doing grade seven at primary school. “The impact the book club has on me is
to sharpen my writing skills and also sharing our work as writers,” she added.
The secretary of students’ development and support (SDS) Mr
Daniel Mokoena told students that they can be famous authors and make a living
with their talents of reciting poems and writing.
He named few famous successful South African reciters and authors;
Mrs Gcina Mhlophe, Miss Koleka Putuma, Mr Scelo Mncube, Mr Syabonga Mpungose
and Mr Lungisani Mavundla.
The secretary of SDS said that he will assist when they
need finances in the book club.
Here is the video of Noluthando Dlamama reciting an emotional Poem:
He further said, “Students you must not take this book club
for granted but you should hold this opportunity with both hands and make sure
there’s progress and success out of it.”
Students are eager for the next book club session as Ms
Mthsali said that she would like to have a book session once every month.
Future authors and writers picked up something new that they didn’t know. They
were told that if a poetry is reciting and they are touched by the poetry words
and they feel like clapping hands, they shouldn’t do that but instead they must
snap.
Mr Arnold Nkuna is a writer and he advised students that
have passion in writing. “If you want to become better at something, you must practice,
writing is no exception,” said Mr Nkuna.
Ms Thato Mashishi came to the book club to observe because
she is a bookworm. Thato said that she
likes reading books in her spare time and her favourite book is ‘The fault in
out stars by John Green’.
She explained the impact the book club has on her, it heals
her, builds her confidence, and grooms her up.
Students find inspiration and motivation in the book club
to be better writers and share their writing skills that heals and sharpens
their minds to think broad.
Here is the audio link of Ms Mtshali explaining the impact of the book club:
Ms Mtshali concluded by saying that she hasn’t seen any
impact yet, but she’s happy to establish the book club because she’s been
pregnant with the idea of starting a book club and today, she has given birth
to the book club and she’s hoping to achieve a positive impact.
